Graduated from Poznan Academy of Fine Arts in 2007. Diploma work in Sculpture
in Prof. D. Mączak’s Studio and drawing at Prof. J. Drążkiewicz’s studio (where she
started working as an assistant in 2006).
‘Childhood’ is my diploma work in Prof. D. Maczak’s Sculpture Studio at Poznan
Academy of Fine Arts. Initially it was a performance piece in Inner Spaces Gallery
in Poznan. This is my second work in wood (after “I Will Tell You About My Dream”)
My works result from the urge to produce images of emotional and symbolic value
with various degrees of encoding on cultural, unconscious or surface levels, where
not all information undergoes rational analysis and the substantial part of it remains
impenetrable.
The process of artistic expression may be compared to a verbal statement where
the expressed becomes subdued.
Image materialization is the moment of internal dialogue, when ‘I’ explains itself to itself
in order to understand and move forward.
Art therefore is not only a means to maintain psychological health (L. Bourgois) but also
a means to personal transgression, leading to an enhancement of being. The viewer’s
role is rather marginal and non-active here. He or she is mainly a witness validating
the ritual, and generating new, alternative meanings to the primary one resulting from
the initial assumptions.
The record of inner tensions and states is a very personal expression but I hope
it is not a very hermetic one as it is through empathy and intuition that individual
meanings become universal. The necessary condition to widen this spectrum is the
sincerity of expression.
